About the Ontario Long Term Care Association

Who we are

In 1959, a group of seven individuals with a passion for long-term care united together to form the first Associated Nursing Homes Incorporated of Ontario, which later transitioned into the Ontario Nursing Home Association in 1972, and then to the Ontario Long Term Care Association in 2001.

For 60 years, the Association has been committed to advancing the quality of long-term care services in Ontario. With advocacy and leadership as a key focus, the Association has been able to influence legislative, policy and regulatory change, support sector expansion and redevelopment, and provide educational opportunities to ensure the increasing needs of residents are being met with safe, high-quality care.

Today, the Ontario Long Term Care Association is the largest association of long-term care providers in Canada and the only association that represents the full mix of long-term care operators – private, not-for-profit, charitable, and municipal. We represent nearly 70% of Ontario’s 630 long-term care homes, located in communities across the province. Our members provide care and accommodation services to more than 70,000 residents annually.

Our member homes are regulated by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and provide health care and a home to residents throughout Ontario.

What we do

The Ontario Long Term Care Association works to promote safe, quality long-term care to Ontario’s seniors. We strive to lead the sector in innovation, quality care and services, building excellence in long-term care through leadership, analysis, advocacy and member services. Over the course of its history, the Ontario Long Term Care Association has developed a strong tradition of using a solutions-oriented approach to advance the delivery of the care and services to meet the changing needs of Ontario's long-term care residents.
